Mary Valley sales hit the half-ton

The number of Mary Valley properties now back in private ownership through auctions and sales has reached 50, with the 50th sale settled this week.

Acting Premier and Minister for State Development, Industry and Planning Jeff Seeney said interest in the government-owned properties in the Mary Valley had been running high.

“Agents have reported that last weekend, following the release of the price list for 15 new properties released on to the open market, 211 inspections were conducted,” Mr Seeney said.

“Along with that, more than 5,070 people have visited the Mary Valley website in the past fortnight.”

Member for Gympie and Chair of the Mary Valley Economic Development Advisory Group David Gibson said reaching 50 settled sales with another 13 unconditional and 4 under contract, was a good indication of the headway the Newman Government was making in mopping up the mess left of Labor’s failed Traveston Dam plan.

“In addition, nine significant development leases have been signed, creating the potential for more than 80 new jobs in the Mary Valley,” Mr Gibson said.

Mr Seeney said his department was working with the agents to ensure well-presented vacant properties were being brought to market in a staged and timely manner, and that job opportunities were being created through the Mary Valley Economic Development Strategy.

“We will continue on this path to revitalise the Mary Valley business and farming communities,” he said.
