The Gayndah showgrounds will be better prepared to meet the needs of locals during natural disasters after a funding grant from the Newman Government.

Local Government, Community Recovery and Resilience Minister David Crisafulli said the Gayndah Show Society had received $8,549 from the Show Societies Resilience Development Fund to buy a shipping container for storage above the devastating 2013 flood level.

“Gayndah will be better prepared for future disasters by using the container to store show and event equipment,” Mr Crisafulli said.

“Show equipment including display boards, speaker systems and excess tables were damaged in the 2013 flood.

“The shipping container will now keep the goods high and dry.

“This upgrade will take the pressure off this community in another natural disaster as it will be one less area to clean up.

“The equipment could also be used during a recovery period.”

The Show Society Resilience Development Fund was introduced following the natural disasters that struck Queensland earlier this year. It will help 15 show societies in disaster prone areas across the State fund projects worth nearly $200,000.
