Acting Premier
The Honourable Jeff Seeney

Residents only have until close of business tomorrow (Friday, 20 September) to have their say on the draft Central Queensland and Darling Downs Regional Plans.

Acting Premier Jeff Seeney said it was important people knew what was in the plan and to get involved with planning for their region’s future.

“The draft plans seek to address land use conflicts between agriculture and mining, two vital pillars of the Queensland economy, and provides greater certainty for the future of towns in the region,” Mr Seeney said.

“Both regions have a strong agricultural base and a well-established resource sector and these powerful economic sectors will continue to drive the state's economy.

“We released the plans at the end of June and have been seeking community input since and a number of information sessions were held throughout the two regions.

“These plans herald a new generation of planning in Queensland aiming to balance the relationship between agricultural and resource interests in the region.”

The draft Darling Downs Regional Plan includes the local government areas of Balonne Shire Council, and the Goondiwindi, Maranoa, Southern Downs, Toowoomba and Western Downs regional councils.

The Central Queensland Regional Plan includes Rockhampton, Gladstone and Central Highlands Regional Councils and Banana Shire Council and Woorabinda Aboriginal Shire Council and represents 6.8 per cent of the total area of Queensland.
