The Honourable Lawrence Springborg

Residents of Ayr, Charters Towers, Ingham, Proserpine and Stanthorpe can now discover how their local hospital is performing compared to similar facilities around the State.

Queensland Health’s hospital performance website began displaying emergency department, performance and facility information for all five hospitals from today.

Health Minister Lawrence Springborg said that in February the Government promised to increase the number of hospitals reporting their data online from 33 to 57 by the end of 2013.

“We’re not even three-quarters of the way through the year and already we’ve seen 16 of Queensland’s rural and remote hospitals begin publicly reporting their performance,” Mr Springborg said.

“This Government guaranteed Queenslanders transparency and by the end of the year they will be able to follow the performance of 57 hospitals at the click of a mouse.

“This is the third group of hospitals to begin reporting this year, which clearly demonstrates our commitment to open and honest reporting, outlined in the Blueprint for better healthcare in Queensland.

“Barcaldine, Biloela, Cherbourg, Longreach, Roma, Warwick, Beaudesert, Capricorn Coast, Emerald, Innisfail and Kingaroy Hospitals also began reporting performance data online this year.”

Information published for the five new reporting hospitals will include general information about the hospital including the number of staff employed, as well as beds and services.

It will also detail the number of admissions, outpatient services and births at each hospital while showing waiting times and attendance numbers at Emergency Departments.
