Assistant Minister for Planning Reform
Mr Rob Molhoek

Gold Coast residents will be able to hear firsthand, details about the Parklands Priority Development Area (PDA), at the first community information session to be held Wednesday 7 August.

Assistant Minister for Planning Reform Rob Molhoek said it follows the release of the State Government’s Proposed Development Scheme for the PDA, which outlines the location of future development and provides for the delivery of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Athlete’s Village.

“The community information sessions are a valuable part of the planning process and I would encourage people to read about what is proposed for the site, speak to government planners about the proposals and provide feedback via a written submission,” Mr Molhoek said.

“This is a significant development for the Gold Coast, contributing vital infrastructure for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games™ as well as employment opportunities for the region.

“The State Government has worked closely with the Gold Coast City Council, the business community and industry during the process and the government planners look forward to meeting the local community at the information sessions and discussing the proposals.

“The community’s feedback about the proposed plans and progressing this valuable project for the region will help the State government deliver a great outcome for the Gold Coast.”

Mr Molhoek said the information session would be held between 3pm and 7pm at the Sharks Events Centre, corner of Musgrave and Olsen Avenues, Southport.

The public notification period for the proposed development scheme will run until 13 September and a further session will be held on 24 August at the Australia Fair Shopping Centre at Southport.

Information will also be available at the Queensland Government stand in the Creative Arts Pavilion at the Gold Coast Show from 30 August to 1 September.

The proposed development scheme is available at www.dsdip.qld.gov.au and at the Economic Development Queensland office at 229 Elizabeth Street Brisbane, Monday to Friday from 9.00am until 4:30pm.

The scheme is also available at the Gold Coast City Council Office at 833 Southport-Nerang Road, Nerang from Monday to Friday 9:00am to 4:30pm.

The Parklands PDA will be home to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games™ Village.  In the longer-term, the PDA will become home to new residents and businesses as part of the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct.
