Information sessions help get Queensland businesses investor ready

About 80 Queensland companies have received advice from a panel of experts to help them attract investment after attending a series of information sessions across the state.

Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games Minister Jann Stuckey said her department, in partnership with Grant Thornton Australia and Business Models Inc., had hosted investment readiness information sessions in Townsville, Cairns, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast.

Ms Stuckey said the sessions targeted entrepreneurs and established businesses looking to gain additional skills to get their business to the point of being investment ready.

“Participants developed a better understanding of just what investment readiness means, and how to get their business model and investment pitch just right,” said Ms Stuckey.

“Attendees were introduced to the Business Model Canvas, a tool co-developed by Business Model Inc. to help them understand their business model in a pictorial sense.

“Grant Thornton delivered a presentation to help businesses better understand investor requirements and the investment environment.

“During the afternoon, participants used the Business Model Canvas to describe their own business and develop an investment pitch, and a panel of real-life investors were invited to critique their pitch and provide insight into what investors think and want to hear.

“The key message for attendees was that thoroughly understanding their business model will give investors confidence in the business to commercialise its product or service, and generate revenue.”
