The Honourable Tim Mander

The Newman Government has released its Building Projects Industry Guide for 2013–14, detailing upcoming capital works worth around $2.8 billion.

Housing and Public Works Minister Tim Mander encouraged the construction industry to take advantage of the guide and urged contractors and consultants to ensure they are appropriately registered with the department for work.

“The Newman Government is committed to a strong building industry, as one of the four pillars of the Queensland economy. We also want the best possible relationship with industry in delivering our annual building capital works program,” he said.

“This guide, together with the Online Project Search tool, will help building industry contractors, trade contractors, suppliers and consultants identify upcoming opportunities with government building projects across the State.”

The Government has recently raised the threshold for prequalification from $250,000 to $500,000 meaning that smaller business can take on larger Government projects with out needing to be previously approved.

“We want to spread the work across small, medium and large operators to give the whole industry an opportunity to work with us,” Mr Mander said.

The Industry Guide and the Online Project Search tool are available on the department’s website at http://www.hpw.qld.gov.au/construction/Projects.

Contractors and consultants already registered with the department’s PQC system will receive notification and a link to the new guide automatically.
