Minister for Local Government, Community Recovery and Resilience
The Honourable David Crisafulli

Regional communities will be given an opportunity to deliver much needed infrastructure following the launch of the local government grants and subsidies program.

Local Government Minister David Crisafulli informed the state’s mayors today that projects such as CCTV cameras, showground upgrades, water bores and much more would be eligible under the $14.6 million fund.

“In tough economic times, it’s vital that the State Government works with local councils to identify the infrastructure that regional communities need to promote growth and investment,” Mr Crisafulli said.

“For the first time this year, councils are also being asked to deliver the projects they apply for within the same financial year.

“It will be a win-win situation.

“Councils will be supported to get their projects up and running and their ratepayers will enjoy the economic benefits of having funds flow into the community rather than sit in the State or local government coffers.

“Of course, there may be some special situations where councils need extensions, but they will be exceptions rather than the rule.”

Mr Crisafulli also outlined that flood grants will open later this year as the department works to combine flood funding from a number of different agencies, to streamline application processes for councils.
