An important legal service in Brisbane’s north side is able to open every day again thanks to a Newman Government funding injection.

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Jarrod Bleijie said the Nundah Community Legal Service (NCLS) was a vital “first point of contact” for many people.

“The NCLS is the only community legal centre of its kind from South Brisbane to Strathpine,” Mr Bleijie said.

“Increasing costs forced the service to cut its opening hours from five days to four and turn people away.

“It meant up to 50 clients a month missed out on vital help.

“The Newman Government believes everyone should have access to legal advice so I am pleased to allocate an extra $30,000 so it can keep its doors open every day.”

Treasurer and Member for Clayfield Tim Nicholls welcomed the extra funding for the service, located in his electorate.

“The centre’s hard-working team provides important general advice, referral and assistance with all areas of the law,” Mr Nicholls said.

“As well as day-time services, the NCLS also provides a night-time drop in service, run by volunteer solicitors.

“I thank the Attorney-General for ensuring that their good work continues.”
