The Honourable Campbell Newman

Queenslanders have the opportunity to recognise the great achievements of their community members via nominations in the Australian of the Year Awards 2014, Premier Campbell Newman announced today.

“This is a great way to recognise extraordinary Queenslanders on a national level”, Mr Newman said.

“Queensland is home to incredible individuals who make outstanding contributions to our community every day.

“I’m encouraging all Queenslanders to get behind this program and nominate someone they think deserves to be recognised. One nomination is all it takes.”

Professor Adèle Green AC was last year named Queensland Australian of the Year for her contribution to public and Indigenous health through her leadership in the wider scientific community.  Professor Green’s research established that daily sunscreen use can halve the risk of melanoma.

Queenslanders can nominate across four categories; Australian of the Year, Young Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year and Australia’s Local Hero.

Awards will be presented on 13 November 2013, before finalists culminate in Canberra on Australia Day eve for the announcement of the national Australian of the Year Awards 2014.

Nominations for the Australian of the Year Awards 2014 close midnight, Friday 2 August and can be completed online or via a nomination form.

The Australian of the Year Awards is a National Australia Day Council program and is proudly supported by the Queensland Government.
