The Honourable Jeff Seeney

The Newman Government will continue its commitment to getting the Mary Valley back on track when ten government-owned properties go on the market today (Saturday 1 June).

Deputy Premier, Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jeff Seeney said a selection of large acreage, rural homes and weekend hobby farms were among the properties which would be offered for sale as part of the government’s strategy to restore the region to its former glory.

“The former government failed the Mary Valley with its plans for the Traveston Dam and it will be a long time before the community gets back on its feet,” Mr Seeney said.

“Our government is committed to ensuring a bright future for the Mary Valley by restoring government-owned properties to private ownership, while revitalising the local economy and restoring community stability.

“Six of the ten properties offered for sale under the first tranche are under contract and these latest developments on the real estate front show that we’re on track with our plans.

“This means that to date, we have settled 29 properties, with two under contract, seven under offer, and 17 listed for sale, including these 10 new properties.

“We’ve also secured three major economic development projects, with more signings expected in coming months.

“With this strategy, we’re boosting the local economy, supporting the community and creating new jobs and productive enterprises for the Mary Valley.”

Mr Seeney said the ten properties ranged from 1000 square metres to 440,000 square metres and offered agricultural, tourism and residential opportunities.

He said prospective buyers were encouraged to contact their preferred local real estate agent ahead of prices being released on www.maryvalleyproperty.com.au on 10 June.

The government’s Mary Valley Principal Agent Oliver Hume Real Estate Group will coordinate inspections from 15 June and can assist buyers with more information.

Mr Seeney said more than 250 tenants in government-owned housing had been offered the opportunity to buy their rental property under the Tenant Purchase Scheme (TPS).

He said applications for lodging expressions of interest for the TPS closed yesterday (31 May), and it was expected offers to proceed to purchase would be made to eligible tenants from July onwards.

Planning is underway to organise another auction event in coming months following the success of the first two Helmsman auctions, which resulted in all 16 listed properties being sold.
