Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jeff Seeney today announced $100,000 in funding for the Central Western Queensland Remote Area Planning and Development Board (RAPAD).

Mr Seeney said the funding would be used to implement elements of the Central West Queensland Outback Tourism Association Tourism Development Action Plan 2013-2015.

“Tourism is of major importance to the central west and this funding will help lure new tourists to the region, encourage repeat visits and convince people to extend their stay,” Mr Seeney said.

“It will also help attract investment and develop new attractions that will help grow the region’s tourism industry.

“We are serious about supporting tourism in regional areas, and last year the government committed $500,000 for five Remote Area Boards to foster economic growth in their individual regions.”

Mr Seeney said this was a great example of how the government was working together with local organisations to deliver real opportunities for growth.

“We are working with the remote economic development organisations, to help ensure they don’t miss out on opportunities for growth,” he said.

“Through the implementation of the Tourism Development Action Plan, RAPAD is ensuring the future of tourism in the region.

“This funding will help ensure the region continues to attract tourists and investment for tourism businesses to stimulate growth.”

Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games Jann Stuckey said the funding was a sign of the Newman Government’s commitment to regions across Queensland to support the four pillars of the economy.

“Support for the Action Plan follows on the back of last month’s successful launch of the ‘Outback Queensland Eventures’ campaign,” Ms Stuckey said.
