Attorney-General and Minister for Justice
The Honourable Jarrod Bleijie
Attorney General and Minister for Justice Jarrod Bleijie has announced Dr Ken Levy as Acting Chairperson of the Crime and Misconduct Commission.
Mr Bleijie said the six month appointment was confirmed by the Governor In Council today.
“Dr Levy will lead the CMC through what will be a period of change and transition, following the Callinan-Aroney and PCMC reports,” Mr Bleijie said.
“His experience and expertise is extensive. Not only is he a practising Barrister, he is also trained as an accountant and a psychologist.
“I welcome and thank Dr Levy for accepting this important role.”
The appointment is effective from 22 May 2013.
“We are carefully considering all the recommendations made in the Callinan-Aroney and PCMC reports,” Mr Bleijie said.
“It is critical that the state has an independent statutory body to oversee crime and misconduct and the Newman Government is committed to ensuring it maintains this role.
“Furthermore, we want to make sure this body is able to operate efficiently while maintaining the highest level of integrity, by being open and accountable itself.”
Ken Levy retired as Director-General of the Department of Justice in 2003.
He is a Professor of Law at Bond University and has sat as a part-time Senior Member of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal since 2004.
His other experience includes serving with the Australian Army for more than 40 years and holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
