Keen interest is brewing in eight Mary Valley properties being offered for sale at a second Helmsman auction in Gympie next Saturday 23 March.

Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jeff Seeney said the auction was part of the Newman Government’s strategy to return land to private ownership.

“Our aim is to restore the Mary Valley as the vibrant community it once was, before Labor ripped it apart with its failed plan for the Traveston Dam,” Mr Seeney said.

“It worked well last time and, judging by the interest shown in this new round of properties, should result in another successful outcome.

“Like any auction we don’t expect that all will be sold on the day - that is unrealistic, but we are keen to see these properties sell to help breathe new life into the Mary Valley community.”

Mr Seeney said the Helmsman style of auction had proved to be a successful way of selling the government-owned properties, as it allowed bidders to bid for multiple properties or move their bid between properties.

The Helmsman auction will be conducted by Ray White Commercial at the Gympie Senior Citizens Centre on 23 March at 10:30am.

The properties up for auction will be:

113 Peacons Pocket Road, Tuchekoi – 12.13ha
25 Wallaby Court, Carters Ridge – 4.79ha
84 Monarch Road, Carters Ridge – 7.3ha
65 Poulsen Road, Carters Ridge – 4.75ha
37 Woodhill Road, Kandanga - 4.22ha
19 Woodhill Road, Kandanga – 4.51ha
83 Reeves Road, Imbil – 4.93ha

All have houses on the properties and are being offered as a vacant possession.

Ray White Commercial reported that despite recent inclement weather the eight properties, which were mostly rural residential and one with river frontage, had received over 90 inspections.

The Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning’s online auction page has had more than 1500 views, with one property receiving more than 300 views.
