    Cabinet approves road to resilience

The road to more resilient communities has been mapped out with State Cabinet today approving a Flood Recovery Plan.

Emerging from the Community Cabinet meeting at the Fraser Coast Council Chambers, Premier Campbell Newman and Minister for Community Recovery and Resilience, David Crisafulli, said the plan was cause for optimism among flood ravaged cities and towns.

"The 2013 Flood Recovery Plan will outline the role of disaster recovery coordinators, ensuring that people who have been devastated by flooding will see real changes in their communities as quickly as possible," Mr Newman said.

"The plan forms five major recovery groups to lead the social, economic and environmental aspects of the recovery, as well as plotting the course for building and roads projects."

Minister Crisafulli said the comprehensive plan was underpinned by the Newman Government's determination to enhance Queensland's flood resilience.

"The resilience measures we implement will differ from community to community but our commitment to rebuild better than before will remain constant," Mr Crisafulli said.

"City by city and shire by shire, Queenslanders will be able to track the way their community is rebuilt.

"This plan gives councils who are rebuilding a yardstick against which to measure their progress; and gives residents the means with which to hold those leading the reconstruction effort to account."
