Another eight Mary Valley properties will go under the hammer at a Helmsman auction to be held in Gympie on 23 March.

Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jeff Seeney said the eight properties, mostly rural residential and one with river frontage, should generate interest from potential buyers in Queensland and interstate.

“The Helmsman auction is a key component of the Mary Valley Economic Development Strategy, which will rebuild the shattered communities torn apart by the former Labor Government’s Traveston Dam debacle.

“The first Helmsman auction on 8 December 2012 saw three properties sold on the day and four more sold within the following week and we hope to see another successful round with the upcoming auction,” Mr Seeney said.

“More properties will be offered for sale in coming weeks, as part of the staged release of government-owned property.

“We are also recognising the value of the exiting community by providing tenants with an option to purchase the property they lease.

“Eligible tenants will be able to purchase the property they lease through a soon-to-be-launched Tenant Purchase Scheme,” Mr Seeney said.

Mr Seeney said the Helmsman auction system allowed bidders to bid for multiple properties or move their bid between properties and was a low-stress method of sale that ensured competition remained fair.

“All properties will be put on the market simultaneously and bidders can follow the progress of bidding on each property at all times via eight individual displays,” he said.

The Helmsman auction will be conducted by Ray White Commercial at the Gympie Senior Citizens Centre on 23 March at 10:30am.

The properties up for auction will be:

  • 113 Peacons Pocket Road, Tuchekoi – 12.13ha
