Minister for Housing and Public Works
The Honourable Tim Mander

Three non-government housing consortiums have been selected for the next stage of the Logan Renewal Initiative, Housing Minister Tim Mander said today.

The Logan Renewal Initiative is a joint venture between the State Government and Logan City Council which will overhaul social housing in Logan as well as increase the supply of affordable homes in the region.

Speaking outside the Logan: City of Choice Summit, Mr Mander said the shortlisted organisations had been invited to put forward detailed proposals for social housing renewal in the region.

“This is about creating mixed communities, providing better support for our tenants and addressing the high density of social housing in certain areas” Mr Mander said.

“Thanks to the neglect of the former government, we have a shortage of suitable properties and the ones we do have are clustered in a handful of suburbs.

“The Logan Renewal Initiative will address that by creating mixed communities with a combination of social, affordable and private accommodation.

“It will also ensure that tenants have better access to the sort of services they need to successfully sustain their tenancy.”

The three organisations shortlisted are:

Brisbane Housing Company Ltd and Horizon Housing Company Ltd – two of the largest registered community housing providers in Queensland
Mirvac Queensland Pty Ltd – a leading building company with a track record in developing properties and master-planned communities. This group includes Churches of Christ Care and Mangrove Housing Association, two registered and experienced community housing providers in Queensland
Compass Housing Services Co. Ltd a large, registered community housing provider in New South Wales, managing around 3,500 social housing properties. This group also includes 4Walls Limited, a registered and experienced community housing provider in Queensland.

The successful proponent is expected to be confirmed by the middle of the year.
