Residents and visitors want to see improved recreational access to Enoggera and Gold Creek Reservoirs and Lake Manchester, while ensuring the natural surrounds are preserved, according to community feedback on Seqwater’s recreation review.

Water Supply Minister Mark McArdle said the review had sparked strong community interest.

“To date, more than 270 people have attended information sessions, community workshops or completed an online survey to have their say on the future of recreational activities at Seqwater’s Brisbane dams, Enoggera and Gold Creek Reservoirs and Lake Manchester,” Mr McArdle said.

“This feedback will help us determine how we can make the most of our dams and lakes, ensuring we open up recreation opportunities and tourism, as we promised at the election.

“The lakes and other natural resources were clearly under-utilised by Labor, but we want to make sure we maximise their potential for everyone to enjoy.

“The most recent workshop on Saturday was another chance for people to bring their views to the table.

“Some of the ideas raised include paddle craft access to Enoggera Reservoir and Lake Manchester; and the development of an integrated trail network within D’Aguilar National Park and the catchment land around all three of these Seqwater lakes.”

Seqwater Acting Chief Executive Officer Peter Dennis said he was delighted with the community response to the review.

“This is the most extensive review of recreation at Seqwater dams ever undertaken,” Mr Dennis said.

“We’ve gone into it with the aim of creating a diverse range of recreational opportunities while ensuring there are no adverse impacts on water quality or the immediate catchments around those dams.

“It’s important that we get the balance right and community input is critical to the process.”

The review will result in the development of a recreation management plan and recreation guides for Enoggera and Gold Creek Reservoirs and Lake Manchester.

The plans and guides, scheduled to be released in February 2014, will detail allowable activities, available facilities, management rules and guidelines.
