A celebration of the true modern BBQ will take over the Cultural Forecourt at South Bank from 5pm on Friday 24 January.

Premier Campbell Newman said that tickets were now on sale for Great Australian Bites – a new and unique event to celebrate Australia Day.

“This will be a unique culinary experience with a menu inspired by multicultural delights, showcasing some of our state’s finest produce,” Mr Newman said.

“Australia is a multicultural society and this event will be the perfect opportunity to showcase this diversity and celebrate what’s great about our country.

“It’s going to be a food spectacular by the Brisbane River, and you’ll be able to watch on as chefs cook up a storm in front of your eyes at live cooking stations.

“2013 MasterChef runner-up Lynton Tapp will take to the stage to share his passion for cooking with great Australian produce and perhaps teach us a thing or two about becoming master chefs ourselves.

“There’s also going to be a great line up of local entertainment for the event, which will be a perfect way to kick off your Australia Day weekend.”

Brisbane pop six-piece band sensation, Sheppard, will create a unique mix of party atmosphere and good-time melodies, along with the unique sounds of Brother Fox and Slip-on Stereo.

Tickets are limited and now available for purchase. Book before 24 December to enjoy an early bird rate of $45, plus booking fee.

“This event will have something for everyone so why not buy family and friends tickets for Christmas,” Mr Newman said.

“You may even want to shout tickets for clients, colleagues or someone you want to thank to in the community.”

Tickets are available until Sunday 19 January 2014 at www.australiaday.org.au/qld
