Minister for Health
The Honourable Lawrence Springborg

A Samford Village baby is the first in Queensland to receive a commemorative royal medallion celebrating the birth of His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge.

Health Minister Lawrence Springborg today presented the first medal to baby Harper-Lily Elizabeth White, who shared the same birth date as the new Prince.

“There were 218 babies born in Queensland on July 22, 2013 and they will all receive a commemorative boxed medallion in honour of the Prince’s birth,” Mr Springborg said.

“Prince George is a future king, so this is a wonderful opportunity, especially for those children, to mark the occasion.

“The presentation of the first medallion coincides with the christening of His Royal Highness this week.”

Harper-Lily’s proud mother Amie White said receiving the medallion was exciting for their family for a number of reasons.

“Harper-Lily’s father Sam is from Middlesbrough in the United Kingdom and my grandparents are also from the UK,” Mrs White said.

“My whole family is pretty excited, particularly because Harper-Lily is the first baby to receive it.

“We feel like she is pretty special.”

Commemorative medallions will be sent to all babies born in Queensland on July 22.

All babies born in 2013 can also receive a commemorative birth certificate.

The certificates are available from Births, Deaths and Marriages.
