Premier Campbell Newman has recognised some of Queensland’s best businesses, tonight awarding the State’s top gongs for exporting.
Speaking from the Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards at the Royal International Convention Centre, Mr Newman said Queensland exporters continued to supply the world with an outstanding array of innovative products.
“This year’s winners continue to raise the bar in international markets, putting Queensland on the map as a major global supplier,” Mr Newman said.
“These are businesses which are responding to the demands of the international economy, and succeeding in the process.”
Mr Newman congratulated Bundaberg Brewed Drinks on being named Queensland Exporter of the Year.
“Bundaberg Brewed Drinks is an iconic regional Queensland brand which continues to fly the flag for the State’s manufacturing sector, providing its brewed drink products globally,” Mr Newman said.
“This family-owned company started out in 1960. Today, it employs more than 150 people and is taking its beverage products to 33 countries.”
Treasurer and Minister for Trade Tim Nicholls said total goods exports out of Queensland were valued at $56.7 billion in 2012-13, with the majority produced in the State’s regional centres.
“These awards showcase the vast range of products and services Queensland companies are taking to the world,” Mr Nicholls said.
“There is no limit to Queensland’s success, with many of our local companies considered leaders in fields like manufacturing, education and training, biotechnology, mining, construction, agriculture, IT and creative industries.
“I congratulate these exporters for their dedication and their innovation, and thank them for their contribution to Queensland.”
