    Attorney-General to appeal Fardon decision

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Jarrod Bleijie intends to appeal a Supreme Court decision to release Robert John Fardon.

An application for an immediate stay of the release order would also be lodged to ensure he remains in prison while awaiting the appeal.

“We will do everything we can to ensure Robert John Fardon is kept away from the community,” Mr Bleijie said.

“Both applications will be lodged immediately after the Court’s release order is officially made, at a date to be set.

“The Newman Government is committed to making Queensland the safest place to raise a child and that’s why we have implemented some of the toughest laws targeting sex offenders in the country.

“Our two strike policy means repeat child sex offenders now face mandatory life in prison.

“If they are convicted of a sexual crime punishable by life imprisonment then commit a like offence after being released, they will receive a mandatory life imprisonment and will not be eligible for parole for 20 years.

“These types of heinous crimes require tough laws.”
