The Honourable David Crisafulli

Bundaberg and North Burnett residents are being urged to start preparing for the storm and cyclone season as the area’s new disaster recovery co-ordinator Inspector Kev Guteridge keeps up the momentum of recovery from last summer’s onslaught.

Community Recovery and Resilience Minister David Crisafulli was in Bundaberg today urging people to Get Ready for the Queensland summer, while having his first meeting with Insp Guteridge in his expanded role.

“The foundations have already been set for the fastest possible recovery and Insp Guteridge will continue on that course,” Mr Crisafulli said.

“As someone who is well known locally for his role already, Insp Guteridge’s appointment is part of the process that will see Bundaberg Regional Council and North Burnett Regional Council tick off the major milestones for recovery.

“Our aim has always been to support councils and their communities as they recover, as well as make sure they were better defended against future floods.

“Just as we keep working to make the region’s infrastructure more resilient, we also want to spread that message to individuals.

“The best defence against the risk of a Queensland summer is for each individual to be prepared.”

Mr Crisafulli asked everyone to think ahead and do the simple things like storing drinking water and tinned food, clearing gutters and tidying up yards to remove potential missiles in case of high winds.

“I want SES workers free to respond to the most vulnerable victims who really need them in a disaster and for those who can look after themselves to take the preventative steps now that will put them in the best situation if the worst happens,” he said.
