Minister for Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services
The Honourable Tracy Davis

Children's advocate group Bravehearts can continue its efforts to protect and support some of the State's most vulnerable and at risk children, thanks to a further $2.38 million in funding from the Newman Government.

Child Safety Minister Tracy Davis said Bravehearts would receive $792,492 per annum over three years from 1 January 2013.

"Bravehearts is a strong advocate for children, particularly those who have experienced, or are at risk of experiencing sexual abuse," Ms Davis said.

"This funding will help Bravehearts continue to provide counselling, advocacy and personal support to children and young people.

"It will also support their community education and awareness program in schools across Queensland to help protect children from sexual assault.

"Bravehearts also does vital work in supporting family members of children and young people who have experienced child sexual abuse."

Ms Davis said the Queensland Government was proud to provide much needed funding to Bravehearts to help its work in protecting and supporting vulnerable and at risk children.

"The Newman Government is committed to protecting children and young people who have been harmed, or are at risk of harm and we value the important services provided by organisations like Bravehearts," she said.

"Our commitment is also demonstrated by the recent announcement of $500,000 to expand Kids Helpline to provide 24/7 counselling and support for children and young people in regional and remote areas.

"These and other decisions show that we are fulfilling our plan to revitalise frontline services, and will help to provide a brighter future for all Queenslanders."
