Minister for Housing and Public Works
The Honourable Bruce Flegg

The Department of Housing and Public Works is seeking Expressions of Interest from organisations which have the capacity to create innovative approaches to developing, renewing and managing social housing in Logan.

This will include the delivery of tenancy and property management services by an experienced not-for-profit entity, as well as the redevelopment of older social housing dwellings and the construction of new affordable housing in the area.

Minister for Housing and Public Works Dr Bruce Flegg said the Logan Renewal Initiative is intended to revitalise government-owned and managed social housing in Logan as well as increasing the supply of new affordable housing for rent and sale to meet the needs of Logan’s growing population.

“It’s no secret that this government is on a mission to improve the social housing system,” Dr Flegg said.

“Logan has some of the highest concentrations of public housing anywhere in the state and is facing considerable challenges including an ageing property portfolio, growing demand for housing assistance and a lack of available properties.

“Interested organisations will need to comply with National Regulatory System requirements when they are introduced in 2013, and work in partnership with the government, non-government and private sectors, Logan City Council and our clients.

“This project is not just about providing social housing, but revitalising Logan as a whole and preparing it, and its community, for the future.”
