Attorney-General and Minister for Justice
The Honourable Jarrod Bleijie

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Jarrod Bleijie has today announced a review of the allocation of funds from the Legal Practitioner Interest on Trust Accounts Fund (LPITAF).

The annual LPITAF allocation of approximately $37 million is given to number of organisations including the Queensland Law Society, Legal Aid, Legal Services Commission and Community Legal Centres across the State.

Mr Bleijie said the objective of the review was to establish a new model of transparent decision-making.

“The Government wants to guarantee all LPITAF funding allocations maximise service delivery to all Queenslanders, while ensuring their ongoing viability,” Mr Bleijie said.

“As part of this review we have established an Industry Reference Group to give interested parties an opportunity to have their say on what the future LPITAF structure will look like.

“All LPITAF recipients are invited to consider the Terms of Reference and provide a written submission.

“The review is due to be finalised by 31 December 2012.

“The outcomes from this review are anticipated to further inform and direct the 2013-14 and future funding allocations from the LPITAF.”

Further information including the Terms of Reference, will be available on the Department of Justice and Attorney-General's website in the coming weeks.
