Six month action plan for QLD launched

Premier Campbell Newman today launched the LNP Government’s Six Month Action Plan for Queensland.

Speaking at the LNP State Convention, Mr Newman said the Government was committed to issuing six monthly progress reports on the implementation of the Government’s action items and set out clear delivery targets.

“It is vital that we continue to share our plans with Queenslanders and set out clear delivery targets,” Mr Newman said.

“We’re doing this because we are committed to delivering on our promises, remaining accountable to Queenslanders and we are not afraid to give them a yardstick to measure us against.”

The Six Month Action Plan, from July to December 2012, clearly sets out actions divided under the five pledges the LNP Government took to the people of Queensland at the March Election.

Some of the 149 actions in the Six Month Action Plan include:

·Starting consultation on a 30 year strategic plan for agriculture and developing a timber industry plan;

·Improving access for Queensland families, bee keepers and tourism and ecotourism operators to national parks and reducing entry permits by 50 per cent;

·Amending the Racing Act to establish a new racing industry structure and supporting country racing by introducing a new clubs cooperation scheme;

·Amalgamating South East Queensland Bulk Water Entities to save Queenslanders money and finalising a 30 year plan for the State’s electricity sector;

·Starting construction on the long awaited Sunshine Coast University Hospital and preparing draft statutory plans for the Darling Downs and the Golden Triangle;

·Delivering a first draft of the 10 year plan for the Bruce Highway and completing the design of the Toowoomba CBD Ringroad;

·Delivering, in partnership with the sugarcane and beef industries, a framework for a best management program to protect our precious Great Barrier Reef; and

·Appointing new parole board members and issuing new guidelines to ensure community safety is considered in parole decisions, as well as finalising the recruitment of 300 new police, engaging service providers to deliver the LNP’s youth boot camp trials and cracking down on hoons.

Mr Newman said key reforms have already taken place in the area of accountability but the Government was looking to do more.

“We’ll establish a Ministerial Code of Conduct that sets a higher standard of performance and behaviour for Ministers, appoint a new Police Commissioner and implement the first tranche of payroll reforms to start fixing Queensland Health’s basket case payroll system,” he said.

“There is a lot to do, and for the next six months, this comprehensive action plan will be both a map and a report card,” Mr Newman said.

Mr Newman encouraged all Queenslanders to log on to www.qld.gov.au and download a copy of the plan to keep track of the Government’s achievements.

“From the first 100 days, to the next six months and right up until the next election the LNP Government’s intentions are clear,” Mr Newman said.

“We will keep working towards our goal of cutting waste and reducing unemployment to four per cent within six years by growing the economy with an emphasis upon Queensland’s four pillars – agriculture, tourism, resources and construction.

“We will be a government that continues to act on its commitments and gets things done for Queensland families.”
