The Honourable Campbell Newman

State Member for Ashgrove and Premier Campbell Newman today launched the new arm of the Kidney Support Network Transport Service at the Gap.

Mr Newman toured the organisation’s office and officially launched the new Department of Veterans’ Affairs Transport Service.

“Kidney disease is a difficult road to travel and this new arm of the transport service will transport veterans to their dialysis appointments three times a week,” Mr Newman said.

The Premier also re-opened the Kidney Support Network’s office, which has been consolidated down to one area.

Mr Newman paid tribute to the many volunteers who together keep the service going and provide a helping hand to those who are doing it tough.

“There are around 250 people doing this kind of volunteer work across Queensland helping many thousands of people in need,” Mr Newman said.

“Volunteers form the backbone of organisations like these, so it’s important to recognise their good work.”

The Kidney Support Network runs a range of support services for people with chronic kidney disease which are delivered by their teams of volunteers around the state.

Some of these services include:

·Transplant Accommodation Units

·Airport, Rail and Bus pickups for regional patients travelling to Brisbane for treatment

·Dialysis transport

·Patient and family support for dialysis and transplant

·Education and awareness programs

·Hospital visiting and support groups
