Minister for Local Government, Community Recovery and Resilience
The Honourable David Crisafulli

The body responsible for helping fund the State’s 73 Local Governments has met for the first time in Brisbane.

Local Government Minister David Crisafulli said the new look Queensland Local Government Grants Commission would determine how to spend the Australian Government’s recurrent funding into the future.

Panel members include:

Lyn McLaughlin – Chair (former Burdekin Mayor)

Stephen Johnston - Deputy Chair (Acting Director General of the Department of Local Government)

Kevin Wormald - representing indigenous councils (retiring Wujal Wujal CEO)

John Rauber (former CEO Moreton Bay Regional Council)

Brendan McNamara (former Flinders Shire Council Mayor)

Joy Leishman (former Mayor of Caboolture Shire Council)

“I was determined to refresh the committee by putting in place people with recent local government experience from right across the state,” Mr Crisafulli said.

“The Chair is a capable former mayor from north Queensland and when you combine that with the experience of a former western Queensland mayor, a former mayor from the south east and two long serving CEOs, I think we got the balance just right.”

The group will make its first recommendation to the Minister next year.

“This is vital money and it’s important that we strike the right balance to get maximum bang for our buck right across the State,” Mr Crisafulli said.
