Mary Valley properties snapped up

Acting Premier
The Honourable Jeff Seeney

Seven of the eight State-owned Mary Valley acreage properties that went to auction on 8 December have now sold.

Three properties were sold under the hammer and a further four properties were sold this week.

Acting Premier Jeff Seeney said the Newman Government would continue to address the terrible legacy left to the Mary Valley by the previous government by making more properties available to market as demand grew.

“The Bligh Government tore the heart out of the Mary Valley community with its failed plan for the Traveston Dam,” Mr Seeney said.

“We must get the properties back in to private ownership to get the community back on its feet.

“The sales in the past few months are the first steps to recovery and we will continue to put properties to the market slowly.

“There is growing interest in the Mary Valley properties which is a good sign for the future of the community.

“A total of eight acreage properties were put to auction on 8 December and it’s very encouraging to see that seven of these properties were snapped up.”

Mr Seeney said the government was undertaking a comprehensive strategy to return the Mary Valley to a strong, agricultural-based economy.

“We’re negotiating with a number of large agricultural enterprises to form the backbone of the economic base,” he said.

“Our main focus is to re-establish the agricultural economy and to establish viable economic units in the Mary Valley to make the properties much more desirable.

“My department is also in advanced negotiation on a further five projects aimed at revitalising the Valley’s economy that will see close to 1,000 hectares taken up.”

Mr Seeney said current tenants would be given the opportunity to purchase their rental properties through the government’s tenant purchase scheme, set to commence early next year.

The properties that sold at auction were:

119 Ironstone Creek Road, Tuchekoi
2670 Mary Valley Road, Kandanga
