Great Keppel project assessment on track

The supplementary environmental impact statement (SEIS) for the $592.5 million Great Keppel Island Resort (GKIR) development is now available on the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning website, Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney said today.
Mr Seeney said the proposed low-rise eco-tourism resort, with a 250-berth marina and ferry terminal, had the potential to create thousands of construction jobs over a 12-year period, plus more than 1,000 direct and indirect operational jobs.
“If it goes ahead, this will be one of the biggest tourism developments in Australia, and a major boost for both the construction and tourism industries - two of the four pillars of our economy,” Mr Seeney said.
“Public consultation on the EIS concluded in September, with about 300 issues raised in the 176 submissions received by the Coordinator-General Barry Broe.
“The proponent was requested to provide an SEIS to address a number of these issues, including public access and the form of tenure proposed for one of the lots.
“The Coordinator-General has released the SEIS to State Government agencies for review and comment
“This feedback will be considered in the CG’s final assessment of the project.”
