Queensland Premier Campbell Newman has announced the winners of the 2012 Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards.
Congratulating the winners and finalists at a ceremony this evening, the Premier said the companies deserved the highest recognition for their contribution to Queensland’s economy.
“Growing exports in this challenging global environment is no mean feat,” Mr Newman said.
“These Queensland companies have achieved great success through innovation and determination to meet the changing needs of the global export market.
“I congratulate these companies on their success and thank them for the valuable contribution they have made to Queensland’s economy.”
Mr Newman made specific mention of Queensland Exporter of the Year, NOJA Power Switchgear.
“NOJA Power Switchgear is a Queensland company at the top of its game, providing electrical infrastructure to countries with swelling populations and industries,” he said.
“NOJA epitomises the success story of a Queensland company which has started out small, and gone on to bigger things.
“This is a company which started out as a four-person operation in 2002. It now employs 150 people and has products assisting in the electrical supply of 80 countries and on every continent,” Mr Newman said.
Accepting the award, NOJA Managing Director Neil O’Sullivan said the company’s international success is a result of giving quality service and tailoring specific products to meet the needs of growing regions.
“NOJA Power's products are used by electricity utilities to increase the reliability of electricity supply,” Mr O’Sullivan said.
“Our continued investment in research and development to create quality products recognised as leading-edge technology in the world today underpins our business success.”
Treasurer and Minister for Trade Tim Nicholls said merchandise exports contributed almost $53 billion to the state’s economy last year.
“The exporting businesses on display here tonight have added significantly to this impressive result,” Mr Nicholls said.
“We are thankful for their continued efforts in helping shape Queensland’s reputation as a world leading exporter.”
