Premier Campbell Newman has today announced Member for Mirani Ted Malone MP is to be promoted to the position of Assistant Minister for Emergency Volunteers.

The Premier congratulated Mr Malone, who will work with the Minister for Police and Community Safety.

“Mr Malone’s position will have a focus on volunteer, emergency and rescue services,” Mr Newman said.

“Ted’s background in agriculture and regional issues has given him a valuable perspective on the work of volunteers, especially in rural and regional areas of the state.

“He will bring a vital mix of experience and dedication to this important sector.

“The Newman Government wants to do the best job for Queenslanders and we’ve taken this opportunity to consider how we can deliver better outcomes for the State.

“Ted Malone is the right man for this job.”

Mr Malone was elected to Parliament in 1994 and was appointed Chair, State Development, Infrastructure and Industry Committee in the Newman Government in May 2012.

He is well respected among the Rural Fire Service (RFS) and regional emergency services community and is currently heading a special Ministerial review into the Rural Fire Service.

The review will investigate a new model that brings greater autonomy, efficiency and less red tape to allow hardworking rural fire fighters to get on with the job.
