Premier Campbell Newman has today appointed the Member for Gympie, David Gibson MP to Chair of the Parliamentary Committee for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning.

The Premier said the appointment follows the promotion of current Chair, Member for Mirani Ted Malone to the role of Assistant Minister.

“Mr Gibson has proven his enthusiasm in representing his local community through his fight against Labor’s disastrous plan for the Traveston Dam and his advocacy for the deaf community,” Mr Newman said.

“We want to do the best job for Queenslanders to get economic activity, development and jobs going again and I congratulate Mr Gibson on his appointment to this important position.”

Mr Gibson was elected to Parliament in 2006. He is a current member of the Agriculture, Resources and Environment Committee and also served as the Minister for Police and Community Safety.

He has a history of strong management of Shadow Portfolios including Infrastructure and Planning, and previously served as a Captain in the Australian Army.

The Premier also announced today the appointment of Tim Mander to the Queensland Government Cabinet, as Minister for Housing and Public Works.

“Tim will carry on the good work started by Dr Bruce Flegg in addressing the needs of the 30,000 families Labor left on the public housing waiting list,” he said.

Member for Mirani Ted Malone will be promoted to Assistant Minister for Emergency Volunteers, working with the Minister for Police and Community Safety, Jack Dempsey.
