Community to have its say on Sunshine Coast draft planning scheme

Sunshine Coast residents will soon be able to have their say on the future of their region.
Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jeff Seeney today said the Sunshine Coast Regional Council could begin consultation on its draft planning scheme.
“The local planning scheme has the potential to empower the Council to plan for the region’s future and provides a framework for sustainable growth management on the Sunshine Coast,” Mr Seeney said.
“To ensure the delivery of an efficient, effective and accountable planning scheme, Council has reduced the assessment levels for a range of low risk activities and removed unnecessary or overlapping code provisions.
“This red tape reduction is a positive outcome and supports commercial, industry, and rural uses.”
The new planning scheme will replace the three existing planning schemes for the Caloundra City Plan 2004, the Maroochy Plan 2000 and the Noosa Plan 2006.
“By having one planning scheme, Council can now provide a more holistic and coordinated approach to managing land use and development in the region,” Mr Seeney said.
“This next stage in the plan-making process gives the community of the Sunshine Coast the opportunity to comment on the future of the region.
“Council will listen to the community during public consultation to make sure this draft plan leads the region through economic recovery, creates jobs, revitalises tourism and creates opportunities for farming communities.”
It is expected that Council will undertake public consultation from late October through to early December 2012.
