Flood reconstruction in Rockhampton is progressing with the Queensland Reconstruction Authority reporting more than $24 million in works in the region either underway or already complete.

Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney said Rockhampton Regional Council was almost halfway through its flood reconstruction program.

“It’s great to see Rockhampton charging back to its pre-flood condition, which is no small feat when you consider that the city resembled an inland sea just 20 months ago,” Mr Seeney said.

“Each Queensland council was affected differently by the 2010-11 summer of natural disasters and the innovative works being done by councils like Rockhampton means the best value-for-money outcomes are being delivered.”

Rockhampton Regional Council Mayor Margaret Strelow said the approval of another $9.6 million in Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangement (NDRRA) funding would be used to restore 104 flood-affected roads in the Rockhampton region.

“I welcome the Queensland Reconstruction Authority’s approval of these important funds as we continue the journey to restore our local roads,” Councillor Strelow said.

“The rebuild of Rossmoya Road in Wattlebank is just one example of Council delivering strong value-for-money restoration outcomes.”

The 1.9 kilometre road serves as a main thoroughfare for more than 100 Rockhampton residents who live to the road’s north and is a key access route for local primary producers that rely on the road to transport sweet potatoes and milk to market.

Other Rockhampton reconstruction sites making good progress include works at Belmont Road, which are now 90 per cent complete.

Works to restore Nerimbera School Road in Nerimbera have also been completed and work on Bolsover Lane is tracking to schedule.

Queensland’s reconstruction program is being delivered under the NDRRA program, a joint Federal (75%) and State (25%) government initiative.

The $12 billion program of works to rebuild Queensland is progressing, with more than $5.4 billion of NDRRA reconstruction works already delivered and a further $3 billion plus underway.
