CLC’s to benefit from sustainability grants
The Newman Government has today announced $500,000 in grants will be given to community legal centres to help them provide vital frontline services across Queensland.
Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie said the money would provide a financial boost to the legal centres so they can continue their important work in the community.
“The Government has a responsibility to ensure all Queenslanders have access to legal representation, counselling and support regardless of their circumstances,” Mr Bleijie said.
“Community Legal Centres (CLCs) work tirelessly on the frontline to make the often overwhelming task of dealing with the legal system, a little easier.
“This funding may not be available each year as it depends on its availability through the Legal Practitioner Interest on Trust Accounts Fund (LPITAF).
“However, it is wonderful that we can provide additional money this year which will give these not-for-profit organisations assistance in delivering their programs and services.
“The Newman Government supports the valuable work being done by CLCs and the significant contributions they make to the State.”
The recipients of this year’s grants are:
· Cairns CLC
· Central Queensland CLC
· Gladstone Community Advice Legal Program
· Gold Coast Legal Service
· Logan Legal Advice Centre -Youth and Family Service Inc.
· Mackay Regional CLS
· Nundah Community Legal Service
· Prisoners’ Legal Service
· South West Brisbane CLC
· The Advocacy & Support Centre – Toowoomba
