The Honourable Jeff Seeney

The Newman Government has approved the final development scheme for the Tannum Sands Urban Development Area (UDA), to assist the Gladstone region with the delivery of housing.

Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Jeff Seeney said demand for housing in Gladstone was high and the development scheme’s approval for this site would be well received.

“Tannum Sands is located in one of the largest job and industry growth areas in Australia, triggering a strong demand for housing,” Mr Seeney said.

“The approval of the development scheme for Tannum Sands offers opportunities for further residential growth to help meet Gladstone’s affordable housing needs.

“Over the next 10 to 15 years the Tannum Sands UDA will see development of up to 1500 dwellings.

“The Newman Government is working hard to assist regions such as Gladstone to deal with housing issues and the approval of the Tannum Sands UDA Development Scheme is another example of how that is being achieved.

“Development of a residential project, Tannum Blue, is already underway within the UDA site, approved under the Interim Land Use Plan (ILUP) following approval of a development application for 141 lots and local recreation parks.

“The approved development scheme is the culmination of extensive work and ongoing consultation with the council and local community to ensure the document provides viable ways of meeting the housing needs of the region and the community.”

The Tannum Sands UDA is approximately 170 hectares in size and is comprised of both private and state owned land.

The UDA adjoins the Tannum Sands State High School to the north and a residential subdivision (Pacific Ranch) to the south along Dahl Road.
