The Honourable Jarrod Bleijie

Garbutt’s SafetyCulture and Queensland Nickel's Palmer Nickel and Colbalt Refinery are finalists in this year's Queensland Safe Work Awards.

The awards celebrate innovation and commitment to workplace health and safety.

Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie announced the finalists today and commended the organisations for taking the lead in designing and building a better safety culture across Queensland.

“Through research and consultation, Queensland Nickel developed a sound enclosure to significantly reduce noise levels in its dust extraction system,” Mr Bleijie said.

“The enclosure is cost-effective, safe, user-friendly and reduces noise levels to improve the conditions for workers on the site.”

Mr Bleijie said the SafetyCulture entry was based on its recently released iAuditor – a free mobile application enabling safety audits, inspections and checklists.

The app has more than 2,000 templates that can be customised with photos, diagrams and other features and generates a report, which can be emailed directly from the device.

“SafetyCulture encourages collaboration across industries through cloud access, which allows iAuditor users to share their ideas,” Mr Bleijie said.

“Within one week of the application’s launch it had been used 12,056 times and was downloaded by 1,218 people and is now used 3,000 times a day across the world.”

The awards are run by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland and the Electrical Safety Office.

Winners will be announced on 23 October.
