Attorney-General and Minister for Justice
The Honourable Jarrod Bleijie

Robina’s Transit Australia Group and Gold Coast Water, through the efforts of one of its managers Paul Gear, are finalists in this year's Queensland Safe Work Awards.

The awards celebrate innovation and commitment to workplace health and safety.

Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie announced the finalists today and commended the organisations for taking the lead in designing and building a better safety culture across Queensland.

“Transit Australia Group has implemented a system that manages all safety aspects across the organisation, including a Disaster Critical and Incident Management Plan,” Mr Bleijie said.

“This new system has resulted in a significant drop in injuries and lost time incidents, as well as workers’ compensation premiums, showing that a safe workplace is a productive workplace.

"The other finalist, Gold Coast Water’s Paul Gear, is a finalist because of his tireless efforts to improve the organisation’s safety culture.”

Mr Gear was responsible for developing the ‘CREATE Zero Harm’ guidelines that resulted in a significant reduction in injury frequency rates.

“Mr Gear strived to create a positive safety culture by providing training and resources and effectively coaching and mentoring all areas of the organisation,” Mr Bleijie said.

The awards are run by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland and the Electrical Safety Office.

Winners will be announced on 23 October.
