Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Jarrod Bleijie has congratulated Mr David Jackson QC who was today sworn in as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Queensland.

In a ceremony at the Queen Elizabeth II Courts of Law, Mr Bleijie welcomed Justice Jackson’s elevation to the bench and wished him the best in his judicial career.

“It is an honour to swear in a man of Justice Jackson’s calibre, who has made such a valuable contribution to the legal community in Queensland,” Mr Bleijie said.

“Justice Jackson enjoyed a commercial practice as a barrister for more than 30 years before being appointed one of Her Majesty’s Counsel in 1990.

“During his career, Justice Jackson also contributed to the legal profession through his membership at the Council of the Bar Association of Queensland and the Supreme Court Library Committee.

“I am confident Justice Jackson will bring his extensive experience, knowledge and fine standing to the task with the even-handedness required of all judicial officers."

Mr Bleijie said Chief Justice Paul De Jersey raised his concerns about the need for an additional judge earlier in the year.

“I would like to thank the Chief Justice for his advocacy in highlighting the extensive workload currently before the court and the need for additional resources,” he said.

“This appointment will lead to significant improvements in the waiting period for cases to be heard.

“The Supreme Court deals with some of the most serious crimes in the state and these trials should be getting underway as soon as possible.

“The appointment of Justice Jackson will ensure the court has more resources at its disposal to deal with these matters more efficiently.”
